It is a partial agonist of the dopamine D2 receptor and is called a "serotonin-dopamine activity modulator". The drug has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on July 10, 2015 for the treatment of schizophrenia and depression. Ipirazole is the first dopamine D2, 5-HT1A receptor agonist and 5-HT2A receptor antagonist compound jointly developed by Denmark's Lundbeck Pharmaceuticals and Japan's Otsuka Corporation. Compared with aripiprazole, epiprazole has an increased affinity for 5-HT receptors, decreased activity on D2 receptors, better tolerance, and a lower incidence of akathisia. The efficacy of negative symptoms and cognitive function in schizophrenia has a better trend, and when it is used for the adjuvant treatment of depression, the effect is fast.
