Meloxicam Description

Meloxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with analgesic and fever reducer effects. It is a derivative of oxicam, closely related to piroxicam, and falls in the enolic acid group of NSAIDs. It was developed by Boehringer-Ingelheim. Meloxicam starts to relieve pain about 30-60 minutes after administration.

Meloxicam Usage

Meloxicam is a non-steroidal antipyretic, analgesic and anti-inflammatory drug, not a hormonal drug. It has strong anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic effects, and can selectively inhibit cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). Therefore, it can block the synthesis of prostaglandins, and its inhibitory effect on the biosynthesis of prostaglandins in the inflammatory site is stronger than that of the gastric mucosa or kidneys, and it is safer than other NSAIDs. Mainly used to relieve symptoms of osteoarthritis, painful osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis.
