Mycophenolic acid morpholine ethyl ester is a precursor of active mycophenolic acid (MPA), which is an immunosuppressive component extracted from Penicillium culture medium. It is hypoxanthine mononucleotide dehydrogenase (IMPDH) This enzyme is necessary for the synthesis of guanine nucleotides, especially for the classical synthesis of guanine nucleotides required by lymphocytes.

2. Mycophenolate mofetil is a prodrug that is cleaved in vivo by nonspecific esterases to produce the parent compound, mycophenolate mofetil. Mycophenolic acid blocks inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase and is a potent immunosuppressant.
