Mebendazole is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic drug that can completely kill hookworm eggs and whipworm eggs and partially kill roundworm eggs. It can be combined with it at a low concentration, and can inhibit the polymerization of microtubules by affecting the metabolism of worms and the production of related energy, causing the disappearance of the worm's epidermis or intestinal cells, and selectively and irreversibly inhibiting the worm's evolution from worms. The ingestion of glucose and other nutrients in the intestinal tract eventually leads to the death of the worm. It is suitable for the treatment of human and animal infections caused by single or multiple helminths such as whipworm, pinworm, hookworm, tapeworm, strongyloides stercoralis, roundworm, etc., but it is invalid for hydatid disease. Mebendazole is also an oxidative phosphorylation uncoupler that inhibits mitochondrial fumarate reductase and reduces glucose transport, thereby affecting ATP production. Mebendazole suspension can inhibit the uptake of glucose by intestinal parasites, leading to the depletion of glycogen stored in the parasites and reducing the formation of adenosine triphosphate in the parasites, but it does not affect the glucose level in the host's blood. Ultrastructural observation showed that mebendazole suspension can cause degeneration of microtubules in the cytoplasm of the worms' capsular cells and enterocytes, accumulation of endocrine granules in the Golgi body, resulting in transport blockage, cytoplasmic dissolution, and complete denaturation of absorbing cells, thereby causing worms body death.
